THE BEST CHRISTMAS EVER: ULCERATIVE COLITIS UNDER CONTROL

This is Gerry’s story of how he brought his ulcerative colitis under control.

Imagine having abdominal pain and nausea for months, making you too tired and sick to work or go out. Urgent bathroom trips eight or nine times per day that interrupt meetings, calls, and social occasions. How about planning every outing around the availability and location of bathrooms and living in fear of urgency or embarrassment? And worse: what if you couldn’t digest enough nutrients to keep from wasting away from malnutrition?

It seems unimaginable, but that’s what people with ulcerative colitis (UC) deal with every day.

What exactly is UC?

Ulcerative colitis is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and sores in the large intestine. It can be incredibly painful and debilitating, as well as embarrassing because, frankly, most people aren’t comfortable talking about “bathroom” issues. But if you have UC, you know that bathroom issues can control your life.

Nobody knows exactly what causes UC, but you are more likely to have it if a close family member does. There is currently no cure, but symptoms can often be managed and many people with UC have periods of remission. Symptoms, or flares, can be aggravated by diet, stress, and lack of sleep.

Symptoms

Ulcerative colitis symptoms can vary, depending on the severity of inflammation and where it occurs in the intestine. Many people with UC are uncomfortable discussing their illness because of the personal nature of the symptoms. Symptoms can range from mild to debilitating and life-altering. Everybody is different. Symptoms are not for the squeamish, and may include:

  • Rectal bleeding and/or pain
  • Diarrhea (with blood or pus)
  • Abdominal pain/cramping
  • An urgent need to go to the bathroom, and often an inability to actually go
  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Fever

Severe cases can lead to dehydration, perforated colon, anemia from bleeding, osteoporosis, inflammation in skin/joints/eyes, and increased risk of blood clots, colon cancer, and a potentially deadly condition called toxic megacolon.

Treatment

Typical treatments include medications, corticosteroids, diet modification, and surgery. Many people find that exercise, mindfulness, and natural treatments help control their symptoms and/or induce periods of remission. One of those is Gerry, who found relief with DeepMarine Collagen just in time for the holidays.

Gerry's story

Gerry was diagnosed with UC over twenty years ago and, like most UC sufferers, has lived through many ups and downs with this disease. He went through extensive testing and was diagnosed after experiencing rectal bleeding and losing thirty pounds in one month.   Gerry recalls “When I first developed this disease I had no idea what was going on other than that I was going to the washroom constantly, I was losing weight, became anemic and was really tired.  Anything that I did eat would go right through me.” His physician started him on a regimen of prednisone and salazopyrin — taking eighteen pills per day.  These meds did help to put the UC in remission, but he gets flare ups.  Gerry said that “l have refused to go back on to prednisone as it is extremely hard on your organs, it leaves you feeling moody and only able to sleep 3-4 hours a night.  The other symptom of prednisone is that you develop a moon face”.  When Gerry has flare ups, the condition takes over his life as proximity to a washroom is imperative; it became difficult to leave home. Gerry reflects “My social life doesn’t exist when I’m not well.  It is very difficult to travel without a very detailed plan on where I would be going and if washroom facilities are readily available.  So most of the time I just stay home.”

DeepMarine’s 100% natural, Canadian-made Collagen was recommended to Gerry and since taking it, he has brought his UC under control.

l found out about DeepMarine and l started taking 10 g (2 scoops) a day for one month and noticed a big difference to my symptoms. l was going to the bathroom 6-8 times a day but since taking the collagen l'm down to 2-3 visits a day. My symptoms of rectal bleeding have also stopped. l know for sure the collagen is helping with my ulcerative colitis. Thank you DeepMarine for this amazing product.

Why DeepMarine collagen?

Studies have shown that UC sufferers actually have less collagen than normal. The special peptides in DeepMarine Collagen help reduce intestinal and gut inflammation and build the tissues that line the intestine.  This helps to soothe and heal the tissue damage from inflammation.

DeepMarine Collagen is an ultra-pure, clean, hydrolyzed fish collagen peptide that has potent anti-inflammatory properties. Small-molecule marine collagen is easier to digest than other sources of collagen such as bovine or larger molecule marine collagens. DeepMarine works to calm the body’s inflammatory process at the molecular level, helping to reduce the symptoms of UC.

DeepMarine is 100% Canadian-made while the vast majority of other collagens are imported.  DM is made from the skin and scales of wild-caught fish. DeepMarine Collagen provides noticeable relief from symptoms associated with inflammatory conditions, without the harsh side effects of commonly prescribed medications.
